Like many of his theatre colleagues, he was eventually lured to Hollywood with the promise of fast cash that would help support his playwriting endeavors back home. (His poorly received Paradise Lost was draining funds from his Group Theatre when he headed west in 1936.)

The Big Knife, presented by Roundabout Theatre Company in its first Broadway revival since its 1949 premiere, is not among the playwright’s strongest efforts…
